In August 1942, he transferred to Focke-Achgelis, obtaining his commission in September. He was injured 5 May, 1944, when his Fa 223 V-11 "Dragon" helicopter crash landed near Bösel, Germany. His work at FA, as engineer and pilot, consisted of helicopter development, and in March 1945, he had undertaken rescue work for a Bf 109 pilot. After the war he worked with the Allies, and on 6 September, 1945, was the first pilot to fly a helicopter across the English Channel in Fa 223 V-14. Deceased 23 October, 2014 (D.Drury). |
